Reading. I will ignore people and lose myself in the words. It’s not because I don’t care for them it’s just that I am too focused on the story. I am studying words, analyzing the way another writer writes, and making note of how it affects a work.
I mimic many techniques and styles of other writers because this is what a writer does. My voice emerges from these replications and then it becomes distinct, unique and whole. It is no longer a jumble of letters but of content.
Without my love for books I would not exist. Novels and poetry have defined who I have become by offering me worlds and characters to escape to.
Without books I would not be a writer.
